The nearly 30-year-old Charles Ornano port facilities show signs of aging that raise questions about safety and potential future operating problems. In order to maintain optimal conditions in terms of both operation and safety, the city of Ajaccio and the port authority have decided to renew all the afloat infrastructure (pontoons, electrical terminals, access gates, fluids) as well as the anchor lines.
The 1st phase of the construction site (North Basin) began in December 2019 to end in July 2020.
The 2nd phase (South Basin) will start in October 2020 and end in February 2021.
This mission should lead in particular to an optimization of the distribution of boats and equipment within the limit of occupancy of the port in order to create 7 to 8% of additional berths, or approximately 60 passage rings.
All studies related to the work will take into account the regulatory environmental context in terms of health and safety and the measures taken to protect the environment.
The financial envelope allocated to this work is € 4,345,000 excluding tax; the port authority alone ensures the repayment of the loan.
